Happy new year, 5k'ers!

I was excited to find the 2012 Key Sports calendar in my inbox this morning! You know what this means ... the 2nd annual Team Smitty 5k is OFFICIAL.

As you may remember, we had 93 participants last year, and we're aiming to double that this year. Smitty himself has said if we get 200, he'll shave his head. He has never ventured close to being bald (much to Mrs. Smitty's relief), but he will do it on-site at the race if all of you bring your friends and family out in support!

Save the date now ... May 19, 2012 ... it's going to be another awesome year!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who made it possible for us to donate $875 to the American Heart Association! That is phenomenal for our first year!

Race Week

Ok folks, pre-registrations are in, and we already have 53 participants!!

We have also received donations from 22 generous individuals and corporations!

Things have come together beautifully ... now all that's needed is more smiling faces and some good old fashioned SUNSHINE!

Time is truly like a roll of toilet paper—the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes! Things are coming along BEAUTIFULLY! Since I last posted, the following strides have been made (pun intended):

• DJ Double R has agreed to donate his time to provide music for the event!


• Tipp City's Kanoe Cafe has agreed to provide baked goods!


• Generous donations have been received from Velekia Davis and Thomas Surveying, Inc.


• Jenny Spencer has provided a donation, a set of AVON for the door prize raffle, AND set up an online AVON fundraiser for us! To participate, follow the directions at the bottom of this post.


• We are up to 22 race participants! Remember, you can print and mail this registration form, or register online here.

Remaining Donation Needs:

• Fruit (oranges, apples, and/or bananas work best).


• We can never have enough sponsorship--remember, the more sponsorship we have, the more money goes to American Heart! It benefits your company, too--you have your name featured on communication about the event, and literature or coupons can be distributed in the race-day goodie bags!


• Most importantly--registrations!! The more, the merrier!!

Thought it would be a good time to give everyone a snapshot of where we are:

Volunteer Spotlight: Girl Scout Troop 30318

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to assist with the Team Smitty 5k!




To show our appreciation, we would like to spotlight the efforts of our water girls--Girl Scout Troop 30318! These lovely ladies will be handing you your water cup, as well as setting and cleaning up for all of our hydration needs.
